What happend in Korea?

Recently, about 90 children showed symptoms of food poisoning at a kindergarten in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. Families including kindergarteners' younger siblings were also infected, and some children showed Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (also known as hamburger disease·HUS).

The health center in charge is aware of the seriousness and is investigating.  Health center are "Of the 184 students, the number of children who showed symptoms of food poisoning has increased to 99. Currently, 22 students are hospitalized," they said.

Children with food poisoning symptoms began to appear in the kindergarten on the June 16th. This is a steady increase from the original four people. Health authorities have so far identified about 30 children with intestinal bleeding E. coli that causes food poisoning.

The aforementioned hamburger bottle is one of the complications caused by intestinal hemorrhagic E. coli.

This began to be called the "hamburger disease" in 1982 U.S.A when children who ate undercooked patties were collectively infected with HUS.

The disease is dangerous because of the risk of kidney failure. It is also a very dangerous disease for children due to severe stomach pains, vomiting and a slight fever.

South Korea is nervous because there are currently hospitalized patients. As a result, kindergartens were closed, and the government imposed fines on those kindergartens.

The government is also observing children with symptoms and continuing epidemiological investigations. So far, kindergarten teachers have no symptoms, but they can happen at any time.

What is Hamburger disease?

Hamburger disease is a rare disease that destroys the kidney in a short period of time. The formal name is called "Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome," or "HUS." This is caused by the kidney's failure to filter out impurities properly, causing impurities to accumulate in the body.

The name "hamburger disease" came from claims in the U.S. in the past that it was caused by eating undercooked patties. In fact, the disease is also infected through under-cooked meat, unsterile milk and dirty vegetables.

If you get this disease, your body will swell. In addition, blood pressure increases, and symptoms such as convulsions and coma appear.

If proper treatment is not carried out, the kidney may be severely damaged or other complications may occur. The death rate is around 10 percent, which is very high. Most of the infected are infants, and if infected, dialysis and blood transfusion are taken.

Be careful if you have a young child in your family. Korea is a medically advanced country. Nevertheless, what happened is a serious illness.
